WORKING TOGETHER FIRST WEEK OF APRIL 2024

Updated: Apr 11, 2024

the new nursery painted light blue

The job of painting the new nursery finished and we were very pleased with the result..... and then couldn't resist painting a few more things blue using the left over paint.

We then realised that our beautifully painted nursery needed to move! This to avoid some phone wires as well as be in a better place to get the right amount of sun and shade. So how were we going to do that?

by everyone helping to pick it up and move it! Which is how we got it where it needed to be.

Once there we then had to think about how to make it animal proof. As although animals couldn't get through the fabricated metal structure there were spaces around where the structure met the earth.

putting in the cadaper stone around the bottom of the nursery

At first we thought we could cover these spaces with granite pillars but this didn't work. So instead we got some cadaper (a kind of stone) which worked much better (it was much thinner slabs than the granite) provided we put it into the earth carefully.

when put in properly there were no gaps between the cadaper stone and the bottom of the nursery.

This work took us two days but now it should be animal proof - provided they don't find ways of burrowing under the cadaper stone.

finished nursery which we hope is animal proof.

We can't WAIT to put some growing seedlings in it.

clearing a vegetable bed in Le Jardin

We still have several beds to prepare for planting, this being one in Le Jardin. It was fairly easy to clear, and as we are going to grow beans on this bed we needed to move the climbing frame from another bed in Le Jardin to this one.

This first meant clearing the beans from the frame - tyes that's right, the very same beans that have been crawling with ants as I have picked them over these last few weeks. To begin with there were a lot of ants on the bean plants, but by the time we had taken the plants down from the frame most of them seemed to have disappeared. Any left were eaten by the chickens when we put the discarded plants into the chicken yard.

Moving the frame was another experience of human unity in action....

But it was finally accomplished.... With everything tied together in its new place

Now all we have to do is wait for the new bean seedlings to grow and then we can plant the bed. They will of course be grown in the new nursery which we can't wait to use.
